Severely Monday

It’s been a while since I referenced one of Talking Points Memo’s frequently amusing “The Day in 100 Seconds” videos. Today’s is worth passing on:

The “Severely” in the video’s title was inspired by Mitt Romney’s insisting that he was a “severely conservative Republican governor.” In fairness to Romney, by the standards of a few years ago, he was a conservative governor. But today’s GOP has moved so far to the radical right that policies that used to be deemed conservative — such as “Romneycare” and “Obamacare” — a modest expansion of access to existing health insurance options, with no new public component (even as an option) and a heavy emphasis on free-market competition — are now viewed Republicans as downright “socialist.”
