Here’s another Indian music video to follow up on my previous post. This one features the internationally popular singer Daler Mehndi and I think the language is his native Punjabi. Mehndi, a serious scholar of music as well as a pop star, has an infectious cheerfulness and his own unique, even weird style of dance that together with the energetic music made this video an Internet phenomenon. Legend has it that Mehndi made it because he’d heard it suggested that his music videos are popular only because they tend to feature gorgeous models. This one is populated only with clones of himself, and he had the last laugh when it proved a world-wide hit.

Since I also have a beard I sometimes think I might resemble Mehndi enough to go on tour under the name Daler Menyu…
Apparently even zombies like Tunak Tunak Tun:
The clip above is from the no-budget 45-minute horror comedy Whoop Ass: Can of the Dead, which I’m told can be viewed for free on line at Google Video. (I haven’t seen it myself.)
Here’s a Florida high school getting into the Tunak Tunak Tun spirit:
You’ll discover that there are a bunch of other versions on YouTube, including at least one with ersatz “Buffalaxed” English subtitles (e.g., “In your yard I am the Ferengi man, very odd and chunky” and “Sue your guard up the lake, there’s sawdust and pizza, Yoda”). You can even one subtitled with an actual translation if you look hard enough.
