John Oliver debunks the Miss America Pageant

I’ve held the Miss America pageant in contempt for decades. It doesn’t bother me so much that it’s a beauty contest but that it pretends to be a scholarship program. (I can see awarding scholarships based on need or merit, but breast size?) And as Oliver points out, its claims on the subject are more than a little misleading.

But one of the best bits comes when Oliver makes fun of the bizarre questions contestants are asked, but then is genuinely impressed when one contestant offers an amazingly thoughtful and intelligent answer to the question of what to do about the Islamic State (!) and manages to express it in exactly the 20 second allotted.
