One more bit of misinformation

Sometimes the political lies get really blatant. As Steve Benen points out, House Speaker John Boehner’s Twitter account today features the tweet “Student loan rates set to double because a Democratic-controlled Congress voted to double them.”

In reality, it’s the Democrats who are currently trying to prevent the rates from doubling and Republicans in Congress who have been blocking them. Boehner’s apparent excuse for this lie is that the bill that lowered the rates was passed by a Democratic Congress, but since that bipartisan bill had an expiration date, Boehner thinks that justifies implying that the Democrats want the rates to double.

You can’t make this stuff up.
