And speaking of animal welfare, I once heard a state animal welfare officer asked if farmers complained when he visited their farms to ensure animals were being treated according to state standards. He said that in fact they never complained, that they always acted very delighted to see him, and they always grinned ear-to-ear when they always asked him the exact same thing every dang time: “I’ve been wanting to ask you how I can get my animals on welfare.”
