People describe their experiences with bionic eyes

At the Mayo Clinic, a blind man with retinitis pigmentosa describes his first impressions of his new bionic eye. The vision is primitive, but he is able to see something, and his description of the experience is worth listening to.

This treatment does not restore anything really approaching normal vision, but it’s tiny step in that direction. Eventually the technology will improve and be applicable to a wider range of conditions.
